Jerry Burns

Jerry was diagnosed with ogliodendroglioma in December 1999.

He underwent surgery to remove the softball-size tumor in his right frontal lobe. Following surgery, he participated in a clinical trial in which he received chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The treatment was successful, and Jerry was in remission and symptom-free for nine years.

In January 2009, the tumor returned, and Jerry underwent another surgery followed by six months of chemotherapy. In June 2009, Jerry had a third surgery. After the surgery, he had 19 treatments of radiation. Following a seizure in his home, Jerry returned to the hospital in December 2009.

After a four-day stay at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Jerry was transferred to St. Luke’s South Acute Rehab. He spent three weeks at St. Luke’s South before going home with hospice care.

Jerry spent his final days at home with his wife and adult children. Jerry passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on January 21, 2010.

Jerry’s long battle with cancer was not easy, however, his strong Catholic faith and the support of his family carried him through.

Jerry will always be remembered for his love of the Oklahoma Sooners, the Kansas City Chiefs, any and all Porsches, black labs and dachshunds, and of course, Kansas City BBQ!

In 1990, Jerry married his wife Linda and welcomed her two children as his own. He was deeply devoted to his religion and family. Jerry’s sense of humor and teasing nature will always be remembered and greatly missed.
