Jacki Garcia
Honoree's story:
Like many families, a brain tumor diagnosis was the last thing we ever expected. In July 2021, our family walked into the emergency room filled with uncertainty, fear, anxiety, and panic. The only ray of warmth as we entered the chilly waiting room was Jacki Garcia. As a nurse navigator for the Ivy Brain Tumor Center, Jacki is familiar with guiding patients and their families through this challenging journey. She greeted us with a level of understanding and reassurance that grounded us in what felt like a spiraling fall. The team at Barrow Neurological Institute quickly took action, with Jacki leading the charge. Our mom underwent a biopsy that revealed a grade IV tumor, glioblastoma. During our two-month stay at the hospital, Jacki remained by our side. Her commitment to caring for us and her daily dose of optimism was instrumental in getting us through the day. Having known Jacki for a few years, I know first-hand that this type of care isn't unique to just my family. Jacki Garcia assists in caring for almost 800 active patients, each holding a special place in her heart. She provides resources, knowledge, and comfort that help navigate this difficult diagnosis while simultaneously getting to know each person to provide personalized and compassionate guidance on approaching this new life. Many people will come into your path for a season, but Jacki will be there for a lifetime. She has changed our lives, and her impact on all her patients is a legacy worth sharing. I am honored to nominate Jacki Garcia as this year's Head for the Cure Healthcare Hero.
