My sister Martye was diagnosed with brain cancer in the summer of 2020. She has inspired her family and friends, and especially me, with her positive attitude in the face of a difficult diagnosis, her grit and determination, her courage and humor. I want to share an activity Martye and I have done together, that has brought us comfort and joy. After discussing suggestions from a speech therapist, we decided to work virtually on word exercises. Martye jumped headlong into this activity with exuberance. We started with picture recognition, then moved on to word associations, and now we take turns picking out interesting words, challenging each other to define the words (correctly!). She has found the time and energy to do these exercises almost every day. I am proud to nominate my sister Martye, who is “Keeping the Faith” and fighting with everything she has.
