The foundation is a vehicle for donors to change the course of medicine by supporting the world’s leading specialists in battling the most challenging brain and spine disorders. Barrow Neurological Institute is an internationally-recognized leader in neurology and neurosurgery. Barrow makes the impossible possible by accepting patients who have been told there is no hope and pushing the boundaries of established protocols to create revolutionary treatments. Barrow recruits the best clinical and research staff to pioneer innovative approaches to devastating neurological conditions, including ALS, Alzheimer’s disease, aneurysms, brain tumors, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injuries and stroke. In 2018, almost 78,000 patients received treatment at Barrow, 4,751 neurosurgeries were performed and more than 1,000 research studies and clinical trials were conducted. Barrow is one of 25 NeuroNEXT clinical trial sites selected by the National Institutes of Health to participate in validating novel therapies, thereby giving patients access to the newest treatments for neurological diseases. It is home to several centers of excellence including the Ivy Brain Tumor Center, Barrow Center for Neuromodulation, Gregory W. Fulton ALS and Neuromuscular Disease Center and Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center.
