Dr Alex Khalessi is the true definition of a hero. The chair of NeuroSurgery at UCSD, loving husband/dad, and the person who has saved countless lives including my dads, Dr David Bazzo – Retired Chair Family Med at UCSD. The day my dad had his MRI and received his diagnosis (later determined GBM), Dr Khalessi was on a Zoom with my family discussing his plan for treatment and scheduling what soon would be the largest and most difficult craniotomy he has ever performed. Dr Khalessi used groundbreaking technology to show us a model of my dad’s tumor in the days leading up to surgery and answered every possible question we had, even on the weekends. About a week and a half after the craniotomy where Dr Khalessi spent over 10 hours removing as much tumor as he could and ultimately saving my dads life, my dad developed (the first of many) EXTREMELY rare infections. Resulting in a multi-level, 8 hour laminectomy and the use of an irraflow. Dr Khalessi’s communication & demeanor are incredible
