Brett is my 8-year-old son who is a brain cancer survivor. When he was 3-1/2 years old, he was diagnosed with a juvenile pilocytic astrocytoma. He would undergo surgery the very next morning with a complete resection. His first MRI scan 3 months later would show regrowth of the tumor, so yet again another surgery. Because the tumor had shown to be troublesome, he would undergo 1-1/2 years of chemotherapy. Throughout it all, he never complained about any of it or questioned it. He finished chemo like a champ! He has now graduated to getting MRI scans every 6 months and soon will be on the yearly plan. It has now been 5 years and Brett is cancer-free!!! He enjoys school and excels in it.
Brett has taught us so much about life and living in the moment. All we can do is live for today and hope for tomorrow.
