Chelsea Laney’s life was almost perfect until she experienced a seizure on January 20th while at work in her classroom. What was initially thought to be the result of dehydration turned out to be the result of a slow-growing, low-grade glioma. Her doctor recommended delaying surgery because the tumor was slow-growing and they continued to monitor it. Without hesitation, Chelsea returned to work and her life as a busy mother with two young children. By chance, she saw a neighbor’s facebook posting about the Head for the Cure event in Frisco and started to devote her time to raising money and awareness for the cause through her team.
Just five days before the Head for the Cure 5K – North Texas event, Chelsea had surgery to remove a portion of the tumor after a series of seizures in recent weeks. She still made it to the Head for the Cure event, and her team was one of the largest there, raising more than $15,000!
Chelsea’s battle is only just beginning, but she continues to hold her head high with a positive attitude as she faces what lies ahead. She continues to Keep the Faith.
Chelsea Laney passed away on September 9, 2014.
