In December of 2018, David, who is a disabled Veteran, had an MRI due to a change in vision and headaches, and a tumor the size of a grapefruit was found. He was transferred from Dallas VA Hopital to UT Southwest in Dallas. On December 24, 2018, surgery was done and 80% of the tumor was removed. He was diagnosed with grade 4 Glioblastoma in January of 2019. He has lost his vision and has also had some speech and cognitive issues as well. He was able to complete 6 weeks of radiation therapy and chemo, although he had to stop the chemo 6 days early due to low platelet levels. He has also had 4 platelet transfusions and also done a round of filgrastim injections to help stimulate his bone marrow to raise his platelets and white blood count. Although he has had his ups and downs emotionally, David has remained strong and positive that he can beat this disease. With the help of his wife, Elizabeth, and also family support, David has fought hard and continued to keep faith that God will heal him and that someday treatments will be made to help him and others and a cure will be found.
