Dave “Chewie” Ledum is a retired USAF pilot. He served in the United States Air Force from 1986 – 2006. He flew the B-52, KC-10, KC-135, and taught future Air Force pilots in the T-1. Dave then flew for Air Tran and worked for Flight Safety for 9 years. Dave is currently working for United Airlines, but is on long term disability. Dave was on a layover in Fort Lauderdale between flights and started getting very sick. After talking to his wife, she tried to figure out where he was. His captain on the flight took Dave to the ER and they did an MRI and found his first brain tumor. Dave underwent a complete resection in Florida and came out of the surgery with flying colors. He underwent chemo and radiation back in San Antonio at SAMMC. He also wore the Optune device for 8 months. At the end of May 2017, Dave had a suspisious area on a MRI. Dave recently underwent another brain surgery on 7/10/17. He is currently undergoing a clinical trial at MD Anderson. Dave is married to his wife, Karla, of 26 years. They have 5 daughters ranging in age from 24 to 13 years old. They live in Cibolo, TX. Dave is involved in his daughter’s high school band and dance activities. He is also an Elder at his church. Dave continues to keep a great attitude and is ready to fight! He is our family’s hero! “I can do all things through Christ who Strengthens me.” Phillipians 4:13
