Emily was diagnosed with anaplastic astrocytoma in October of 2015.She had surgery to remove her 6 cm tumor only two days after a rush to the ER, and was home 7 days later. We knew Emily was a fighter from the start. She started chemo in November, but the tumor grew and she needed radiation.During the most challenging time of her life, Emily stayed strong positive and kept God at the forefront of every step. She never waivered in her faith that God would carry her through the tremendous battle against brain cancer.Dr. Groves brought tears of joy to all of us when he told us that Emily’s response was remarkable and as good as we could ever have hoped for.Emily proved that she wouldn’t be stopped by cancer and went back to work as a Labor and Delivery Nurse. She enjoyed a trip to Lake Tahoe with her husband, Justin, and climbed mountains in Yosemite- a fitting accomplishment after overcoming the past 9 months. The best gift of all came when Emily and Justin were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Tess, this past September.Unfortunately, the first MRI after Tess’s birth showed cancer was back. She had a biopsy that showed her tumor was now stage 4, a glioblastoma. This was hard to hear but Emily’s faith was strong and she held her chin high.Dr. Groves was encouraging and had confident and said “let’s take care of this thing”and started Avastin and Temodar.Just 2 months later the MRI showed a seemingly miraculous response. We give credit to Dr. Groves but give all the glory to God. Every day Emily declares victory over cancer through her faith in Christ. She is courageous, loving, inspiring, kind, and beautiful. We are so proud of her and believe wholeheartedly that she is a perfect example of KEEPING THE FAITH.Philippians 4:13 says, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.If you don’t believe that, and that Jesus is Lord, give her five minutes of your time. She’s a living testament to what FAITH in yourself and in OUR GOD will do for you.
