Gerald is one of the most nominated individuals in the history of the Keeping the Faith Award. Nearly twenty family members, friends, and coworkers expressed that despite his diagnosis, Gerald had an unmistakable zest for life. He spent that life in the service of others. For over forty years Gerald held positions with the fire department and the Sheriff ’s tracking team. When described by a friend, “Gerald was a giver… His generosity knew no limit. He was a friend one could count on no matter the situation.” In December 2015, he married the love of his life, Teresa. No one could have expected that only eight months later, Gerald would be diagnosed with brain cancer. The final ten weeks of Gerald’s life was spent as the rest, loving and helping others. Teresa says, “We only had 10 months of marriage, but he showed me more love and compassion in 10 months than most experience in a lifetime! By demonstrating selflessness and inspiring others through his life, we recognized Gerald Yates for Keeping the Faith!
