Jackie was leading a normal life, living in Alaska with her Coast Guard husband, raising two young daughters and teaching elementary school. Their world was turned upside down with the possible diagnosis of a brain tumor. They came to Houston and surgery confirmed GBM. The coast guard transferred the family to Houston so she could get the best care possible. She has gone through several treatments, including Avastin and has been stable on a trial with an oral drug for several years now. Surgery left her with one sided weakness but she maintains full independence. Through all the treatment side effects, hip fracture, separate femur fracture and many other obstacles, Jackie has always been strong and pushes through. She is a true role model of strength and is one of my heroes.
