My husband, Joe, has been battling this disease for over 10 years. In October of 2004, after a Grand Mal seizure, he was diagnosed with an Oligodendroglioma. He went through radiation, chemotherapy, and a biopsy. For 8 years, his tumor lay dormant. The seizures did not. Then in 2012 we got the news that his tumor was growing. More chemo. Another period of no changes. Late March of 2014, he woke having a seizure. He did the right thing and stayed in bed for an extended time, until he was certain the episode had passed. Finally, feeling safe, he got up to go to our bathroom. I heard a loud crash, the next thing He remembers is me standing over him, dialing 911, and a sharp pain in his left ankle. EMT’s stated that his blood pressure was very low, and strongly suggested we go into our family doctor. We went to an Urgent care facility because our doctor was out of the office, Urgent Care would not take him, insisting I take him to ER. A broken leg, a second seizure, another hospital visit. His leg healed. I went back to work. His next MRI showed another tumor change, not growth, but something different. HIs Neuro-onc believed it was turning anaplastic. More chemo, low blood counts. Finally having to stop the treatment. Another period of quiet. November, 2014. His leg won’t work. Another trip to the ER. A stroke. Several weeks in re-hab. At home physical therapy. February 2015, more bad news. More pronounced changes. Almost surely anaplastic now. Surgery was never an option. Through all of this and more, as I have paraphrased, he has remained emotional strong. On the outside anyway, and for my benefit I believe. He tries his best to help, to remain positive, to fight this battle. He is my strength, my rock, my HERO. I love you, Joe, with every fiber of my being. Laura Gallagher
