Keeping the Faith

Julie

Prater

I do not know Julie personally, but have been following her journey with brain cancer since I read about her in the Dallas Morning News in December 2014. In May 2014, Julie suffered a grand mal seizure in the middle of the night. She became a patient at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Plano, where she worked as a registered nurse and was diagnosed with a grade IV Glioblastoma Multiforme. While receiving this life changing news, Julie was 8 weeks pregnant with her second child. Treatment just became difficult. Knowing her baby could be harmed by the drugs and procedures intended to save her life, they decided to keep the baby healthy. In her third trimester, doctors had no choice but to operate on Julie’s tumor. Julie’s goal was to stay alive long enough to deliver, which she did. At 36 weeks, precious June Lane was born. Through chemo and radiation treatments, Julie has kept her faith, displaying joy through her beautiful smile in the pictures on her Caringbridge site. Julie quoted this scripture in her first post, “Through Him whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, character, and hope” Romans: 5:2-4 Thank you for being an inspiration to so many!
