In May of 2023, my Mom Kelly’s life changed forever when she suffered a brain injury due to bleeding from a tumor which was later found to be a grade 4 Glioblastoma. Shortly after, she had to relearn how to walk, talk, eat, and do all of the normal things in life. Since then, she has shown incredible resilience through all kinds of treatment and therapy. She successfully finished her first round of radiation last August, began Optune in November, and finished chemo in January of this year. During that time, she had multiple “good scans” with no growth of the tumor. She traveled to the mountains in Colorado multiple times, the beaches in Florida with her family, and spent lots of time making memories with friends and family in both Omaha and Des Moines. Fast forward to this past May, a routine MRI showed new growth, but on the opposite side of her brain. This distal recurrence was not what our family was hoping for, but thankfully a second round of radiation and chemo was an option. Tuesday, July 2nd marked her final day of radiation. Having gone through it for a second time now, she was incredibly strong throughout radiation and her resilience was (and still is!) inspiring to everyone around her. Although not every day is easy, my mom has truly taken the fight into her own hands and is making the most of every single day she’s been given. Mom, we are so incredibly proud of everything you’ve accomplished in the last 14 months. Keep up the fight and always lean on your faith in God and know that his plan is bigger than ours. We love you so much!
