On March 15, 2019, Laura was taken to the hospital because she wasn’t feeling good and having stroke like symptoms. About 30 minutes after arriving an MRI revealed a tumor in her right frontal cortex. On March 21st, Laura had a craniotomy to remove a 3 cm tumor. Pathology came back and Laura was diagnosed with Grade IV Glioblastoma. Laura jumped right in and knew she had to fight this terrible disease. Laura is the mother of three boys — Magnus (4), Maximus (3), and Maverick (9 months) — and everyday she stands up to cancer and fights through the exhaustion to be there for her boys, husband, and family. Her family and friends were in awe as Laura underwent 6 weeks of daily radiation and chemotherapy and still kept a smile on her face. She has persevered through the loss of her hair with beautiful inner strength. She has taken her whole, “village” on this journey through written updates and in a way supported her friends and family through this scary time by giving everyone a glimpse into her inner fears and determination to kick cancer’s ass. Laura is 3 months into her adjuvant chemotherapy and her smile is still bright, even through this last round that made her feel pretty sick. She joined a clinical trial at Northwestern as she is determined to fight her GBM with anything that is available. She is 1 month into wearing her Optune cap. She’s had some frustration and sadness around this very physical daily reminder of her cancer but her positivity and determination to be here for her boys makes her thankful that the Optune gives her another way to actively participate in this fight. September 15, 2019, the day of Head for the Cure, is the 6 month anniversary of finding out about the tumor in her head. These 6 months have revealed how much love Laura has for life and for her boys and how strong she is in battling her GBM. Her family and friends are so lucky to have her and as she keeps reminding everyone, “Cancer doesn’t know who it’s messing with!”
