A lot of people came together to make this event happen. But I would like to recognize one in particular. Like all who have faced this disease, she dealt with the shock learning of the diagnosis, with the pain, grief, and physical challenges of treatment, and showed strength beyond words the entire time. She stayed motivated by focusing on the things that bring her joy and strength. It has been incredible for me to watch her lean into being a mom while also pushing for herself and others, no matter what was thrown at her. She found the courage to share her story so she can bring more eyes to the cause, to increase awareness for all impacted. Her experiences solidified her determination to bring an event to Portland, to raise money for organizations that have been such a big part of her journey, to build a community. I have been so impressed by her resolve to make this event a success not only for this year, but for years to come. That is why I would like to honor Lauren Braun.
