My wife, Lorie, was diagnosed with GBM in October 2002. Her tumor was removed and she underwent about 9 months of radiation and chemotherapy. In spite of the very demoralizing prognosis every GBM patient receives, she stayed positive and upbeat throughout all of her treatment, insisting that “she’d beat this thing”. She goes back for annual MRIs now and in October will be 14 years, tumor free. She lives every day like it could be her last and is an inspiration to all she meets – especially her 9 grandchildren who have all been born since her treatment was completed (the oldest is 10). The attached picture is “Memaw” Lorie with her 5th grandchild, Emmalynn, when they attended the annual Creighton Women’s Basketball “Pink-out” game. This episode has certainly strengthened our marriage, our commitment to all of our loved ones and our faith in the Lord. She is without a doubt my hero and a shining example to all those struggling with this terrible diagnosis that there is and always will be hope. I hope you will consider her as an honoree at this year’s event. Thanks, Greg Olson
