In her own words: I am joining the fight against brain cancer by participating in Head for the Cure (HFC) Run/Walk 5K in Detroit on September 6, 2014. Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research. As many of you already know, I am a 3 year brain cancer survivor, AA3 (Temporal Anaplastic Astrocytoma III). I share my story with everyone because I never want anyone to ignore the symptoms the way I did. I was so very fortunate that my best friend, Rosann, caught me having a seizure, and immediately referred me to a great doctor. To make a long story short, I had my surgery at the amazing MD Anderson in Houston, TX. They saved my life, and it is now my turn to support their continued trials and treatments. After a year and a half of radiation & chemo, Dr. Walbert here at The Henry Ford Hospital asked me to start exercising…and so the running began. I participated in the HFC run/walk in Houston, TX last October, and could not wait to get a group together here at home in Detroit!! HFC works to inspire hope for the community of brain cancer patients, their families, friends, caregivers and other supporters, while celebrating their courage, spirit and energy. Every HFC event marks a day of celebration where those diagnosed with brain cancer are honored and celebrated by their friends and families, those who have lost their battles are remembered, and we are all inspired to carry on the fight. Funds raised by HFC support the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative, a network of medical centers with the expertise and the desire to participate in state-of-the-art clinical trials investigating new treatments for malignant brain tumors.
