I believe my dad, Michael Funk, should be honored because of his courageous attitude and willingness to fight. 6 years ago he was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. He found out he had a tumor through numerous seizures. At first, the doctors believed it was a non cancerous tumor until it grew from the size of a pea to the size of a peach pit within two weeks. He was given a year to live and here he is 6 years later. 2 years of chemo, radiation, gamma knife, numerous types of other chemo, and three brain surgeries later he is here smiling and walking to support everyone going through this too. My dad is the most amazing and strong willed person I have ever met. He could sit around and be upset with the doctors prognosis but instead he is happy and trying his best to stay positive. Now, this isn’t to say he hasn’t had his bad days, everyone does. But even on those bad days he has chosen to keep fighting for his family and friends. He is my inspiration to live life to the fullest everyday and I believe he should be an inspiration to everyone. No matter what the prognosis is you can beat it and keep fighting. I love my dad beyond words and I believe he should be recognized because if someone is having a hard time dealing with this nasty disease, they can look at my dad and say I can do it.
