A brain mass was found in August, 2018 and following a biopsy in October, 2018, Turner Russell (age 22) was diagnosed with a Grade 3 Brain Tumor (Anaplastic Astrocytoma). Due to progressing symptoms, Turner needed to leave college to pursue treatment. He was a student at Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colorado, and was four courses short of earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Turner completed radiation, with concurrent chemotherapy in December, 2018, and participated in maintenance chemotherapy for a period of time before starting a clinical trial in March, 2019, working with Dr. Nicole Shonka at the Buffet Cancer Center in Omaha. He is continuing with this hopeful trial medication, and experienced some response and symptom improvements this Spring. Turner is a person with a strong concern for the souls and physical well being of people and concerned for the problem of suffering in the world. During his high school and college years, he participated in short term mission projects in Ecuador, Peru, Haiti and India. During his college years, he also was actively involved in a ministry to help homeless individuals in the Denver, Colorado area. Turner’s strong faith as a believer in Christ is upholding him during this battle with Cancer. The manner in which he has navigated this battle continues to inspire his family and his many beloved friends. We know that he is thankful for today’s event today and the funds that have been raised to contribute to research, and to help individuals and their families suffering with and battling Brain Cancer.
