Where do I even start! Julie is the daughter in law of Kelly Emery (married to her son Alex) and simply put, she is a 5 foot 5 inch longhaired version of super man. When Kelly was discharged from the hospital after her initial GBM diagnosis, our family was tasked with figuring out the logistics of treatments in the future. Having found an awesome care team with Dr. Shonka and Dr. Mai at UNMC in Omaha, it was evident that Kelly staying at her house in Des Moines was not going to work. Needing a main floor bedroom with ample accessibility, Julie did not hesitate in offering a spare room in their home for Kelly to stay in. Fast forward 14 months later, Kelly has been a mainstay in Alex and Julie’s home. Throughout this time, Julie has been an absolutely remarkable caregiver for our favorite brain cancer patient. Between balancing mom life with 2 of the most energetic toddlers on this earth and helping run a successful business with her husband, she makes it look extremely easy. Every single day ahe makes sure Kelly has all of her medications, eats each meal, and is essentially the organizer and coordinator for all of her treatments and appointments. Often times she has to cancel her own plans for the day to make sure Kelly makes it to her appointments. If you are a doctor or caregiver that has seen Kelly for an appointment, chances are you’ve seen Julie there as well. She is an incredibly selfless individual who puts the needs of others in front of herself every single day. Our whole family is so blessed to have her and she deserves all the praise in the world.
