When I think of a Legacy of Love, I think of my dad, Kevin Engfer. He was the main caregiver for my brother, David, during his battle with brain cancer, and he showed up with quiet, faithful love every single day. After my brother began having seizures and could no longer drive, my dad took him to work (so he could continue to work) and to almost every medical appointment in downtown Dallas, even though they live forty minutes away. As my brother’s condition worsened and he could no longer be alone, my dad stayed with him. He also made sure my brother still experienced joy, doing things like mountain biking together while they still could. In my brother’s final days, my dad sat with him every day until he passed, praying with him and trusting Jesus through unimaginable grief. Since my brother’s death, my dad continues this legacy by meeting weekly with one of my brother’s friends who also has cancer. His love, rooted in faith in Jesus, continues to serve others beyond his own loss.
