Marty Beene is the widow of a former patient, named Pamela. He was Pamela’s best friend, husband, and primary caregiver. Marty always went the extra mile to make sure that Pamela had all that she needed throughout her illness and that he had all the resources and emotional support that HE needed to care for his wife. Marty is now committed to supporting other caregivers on their journey. He volunteers in the UCSF Neuro-Oncology Gordon Murray Caregiver Program peer to peer support program, raises funds for our program through such events such as the Head for the Cure race, serves as an “expert” caregiver in our educational offerings, and serves on the Caregiver Program’s Family Advisory Council. In many ways big and small, he makes a difference for those on the caregiving journey.
