Doug Leslie

Douglas Leslie

Doug Leslie was diagnosed with a 4cm+ Grade II Oligodendroglioma in his right frontal lobe on September 28th, 2005, after suffering a seizure at his workplace that morning. It was a day that changed the direction of our family’s lives forever, words no one ever wants to hear. ‘I am sorry Mr. Leslie but you have a brain tumor.’ This started the 14.5+ year journey living with a brain tumor. Through all of this Doug was a faithful positive force to be dealt with. He set prayerful goals of seeing his (4 year old son-Joel) graduate high school and go onto college, to be able to walk his two Daughters (Erin 18 and Keri 14) in the future down the aisle on their wedding day and to become a grandpa. He continued to work full-time when he was recovering from treatments and to provide for his family. He was never one to sit idle and wait for life to happen; he made his life happen, he never backed down from a challenge and this was one he faced head on. His Faith in the Lord Jesus is what kept him strong and resilient and his love for his family gave him hope to continue each day. His favorite things to do in life were to spend time with family, fishing, golfing and enjoying sports. Especially the KU Jayhawks, KC Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs. His favorite vacation spots were locally at Viking Lake in Gallatin, MO fishing for Crappie and then out of state was San Diego, CA, St. Pete’s Beach, FL and Cocoa Beach, FL. The sounds of water waves of the ocean and/or the sounds of water lapping against a boat were extremely soothing for him. He said those were the places he felt most relaxed and at peace. Doug Leslie and his family participated in (13 ) 5K brain tumor benefit runs over the years, one in Oklahoma in 2006 and then each year from 2008 – 2019 in the KC Metro HFTC under the team name of ‘The Leslie Line-up’. He was a big advocate to help others diagnosed with this disease by participating in group forums with Head For the Cure and even video taping encouraging videos with HFTC to use as well as being open to phone calls from other Brain Tumor survivors. Doug was loved greatly by so many, his heartfelt laughter and his teasing personality will be missed by all. He went home to the Lord on March 10, 2020 but not after reaching all his goals previously prayed for. He walked both daughters down the aisle at their weddings, was able to see his son graduate High School and start college at UCM in Warrensburg, MO and be a true grandpa to his grandchildren (Emma 5, Noah 3, & Logan 2). May we continue to celebrate his life with the same love, faith and devotion as he showed to all who knew him.
