My mom always wanted to have a child, so much so that she fought to have me. Being the oldest of five kids, she always wanted a large family. She struggled with fertility but was able to have me with the assistance of nutritional supplements. I was the light in her life- she loved being a mother and caregiver, and the hardest struggle she had was passing on that role when she declined. Karen had many passions in life, including music, art, cooking, dancing. She had a lovely singing voice and enjoyed playing the guitar. During her battle with brain cancer, she’d light up when hearing music because it helped her convey the sadness of her diagnosis. One of my favorite memories is making Christmas cookies, singing and dancing in the kitchen. She loved enjoying the moment, and I miss those moments with her.
