My mama was a fighter with a lot of GRACE! She was so determined to beat cancer. Never wanted to give up. So full of life and love! She was someone that would give her shirt off her back a million times over. My mom lived for everyone else around her. She was the absolute best and forever my hero! I miss her dearly! – Ashley Berghuis
My mom, Melissa Patzel Klein, was the most loving, kind, humble, and generous person I have ever known. She lived every day with compassion, grace, and an unwavering love for her family. She cherished her grandchildren, adored her animals, and found peace being outdoors, especially at the pool or the lake. She always put others before herself and never hesitated to lend a helping hand or brighten someone’s day with her smile. On December 24, 2025, she was diagnosed with glioblastoma (GBM). Despite the devastating news, she faced every radiation and chemotherapy treatment with incredible courage, walking into every appointment with her head held high and often leaving with a smile. She fought with remarkable strength until she lost her battle on June 22, 2026. Although cancer took her life, it never took her spirit. Her love, resilience, kindness, and unwavering faith touched countless lives, and her legacy of compassion will forever inspire me to live with grace and selflessness. – Shawn Schmalken
