Born January 12, 1960, Richard “Rick” Maguire, went to be with our Heavenly Father on March 15, 2015 after nearly 4 years fighting glioblastoma. In June of 2011, Rick was holding his granddaughter MaKenna, and for a moment he couldn’t remember her name or speak any words – that was the first sign that something was wrong. He visited his family doctor and ultimately had an MRI which showed the cancer. Over the years he underwent multiple brain surgeries and biopsies. Unfortunately, one tumor was inoperable given its size and location, so he underwent 2 rounds of radiation then received chemotherapy until about a month before his passing. After his diagnosis, he chose to view his cancer as a reason to live life to the fullest – and he surely did! He traveled to Hawaii with his wife Lezlie, where they renewed their wedding vows, walked his youngest daughter down the aisle, and even welcomed his 4th grandchild into this world. Rick was always positive even through all the surgeries, radiation and chemotherapy. His strong will and determination to keep everything as normal as possible for his family was evident every day. Rick was devoted to his family and always ready to give a helping hand. He was an avid Nebraska Huskers football fan, enjoyed golfing, boating and fishing with his grandkids along with cruising in his pride and joy – a ZO6 Corvette. Rick spent 28 years in the refrigeration business – he was specifically requested by many as they all said “he knows what he’s doing, and he’ll fix it right the first time”. Rick eventually started his own business with Primerica Financial Services because of his love for helping others. He fought a long, hard battle until the very end and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him. We find comfort in knowing that he is watching over us with God in Heaven, cancer free. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather – an amazing son and brother – as well as an avid Husker fan! We have created this page as a way to honor his memory in the hopes that research will one day find a cure for this terrible disease. Rick is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lezlie; 2 daughters, Heather (John) Larreau and Mandy (Heath) Aufenkamp; 4 grandchildren, Paige, MaKenna, Matthew and Hadley; mother, Jeannine Maguire; 2 sisters, Cheryl (Mike) Doud and Cindy (Larry) Pearce. Proceeded in death by his father Richard (Dick) Maguire.
