Thank You, Houston 2016!

On behalf of everyone at the Head for the Cure Foundation, thank you for helping make the 4th annual Head for the Cure 5K Run/Walk – Houston truly the best yet!

It was a beautiful early-fall morning in Pearland for our signature Head for the Cure 5K, and an unforgettable celebration of hope and optimism for brain cancer community — including patients, their families, friends and other supporters!

With your help, we welcomed more than 800 runners, walkers, volunteers, donors, sponsors and well wishers — most participating with one of the 37 Head for the Cure teams supporting a loved one affected by brain cancer.

Thank you to all of our incredible volunteers.  Your efforts throughout planning, and especially on event day, resulted in an extraordinarily successful Head for the Cure 5k event.  Thanks, in particular, to Kristin Odom, Carrie Anderson, Ginger Vazquez, Tracey Schoettelkotte, Dr. Barbara O’Brien, Dr. Marta Penas-Prado and Dr. John de Groot for their continued and unwavering support.  We also want to send along our special appreciation to the teams from Pappas Restaurants and MD Anderson Cancer Center.  Our events would not go on without the help of our volunteers and participants. We are so appreciative of each and every one of you!

What’s more, and while we are still counting, our 4th annual Houston event has grossed over $100,000! These results are very exciting – and we appreciate your help so much – help us raise even more!  The need is so great, that our work doesn’t stop with the conclusion of each Head for the Cure event.  Please feel free to donate an additional gift here.

Keeping the Faith Honorees: We were so honored to recognize 4 extraordinary people – as Keeping the Faith honorees.  Read their stories HERE  These inspiring people are the essence of Head for the Cure.  Each story is personal and special, and they represent why we keep pushing to grow our cause every year in the fight to defeat brain cancer.

Results from the race are available HERE, if you would like to check your time, and see how you finished among your age group.  As we noted on race day, our course was slightly short of the 5k, so the times were particularly fast on Saturday.   A special HFTC congratulations to our overall 5k winners:

  • Overall female: Amie Smith
  • Master’s male: Bryan Dail
