Head for the Cure Foundation Receives a Sweet Valentine from Love2Run

Over the weekend, nearly 1,000 people registered for one of three Love2Run events held in Kansas City, Lawrence, Kans., and Columbia, Mo.

Love2Run is a 4-mile run/walk event that is a unique opportunity to compete in an organized run with a loved one.

Participants can race as a couple, and the couple with the lowest cumulative time wins (categories are broken out by cumulative age of the couples). Those without a running partner can “go stag” and compete for individual awards.

The fourth annual Love2Run in Kansas City took place Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport, which is where the Head for the Cure Foundation headquarters are located. More than 600 participants braved sub-freezing temperatures, and there were two marriage proposals at the finish line!

Both Columbia and Lawrence (also hosts to Head for the Cure 5K events) held Love2Run events a day earlier on Saturday, with even more frigid conditions. But that didn’t stop nearly 400 participants from sharing their love of running (and Head for the Cure).

Love2Run organizer Troy Fitzgerald donates all proceeds from his Love2Run events to the Head for the Cure Foundation. Troy, who also serves as race director for the flagship Head for the Cure 5K – Metro KC event as well as the Head for the Cure 5Ks in Columbia and Lawrence, says he expects to donate around $2,000 to the Head for the Cure Foundation from this weekend’s events.

Head for the Cure Foundation is grateful to Troy for all he does to support our fight against brain cancer!
