Team Sandy Butler has had a team participate in Head for the Cure since you guys first came to St. Louis. My mom, Sandy Butler, was the original founder of the team and I have since taken the reigns since her passing in 2015. We want to continue her legacy. She was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in November of 2009. She had the initial tumor removed in November and immediately started Chemo and radiation. About a year and a half to two years later the tumor started to regrow. She had a team of doctors at Duke and here in St Louis. She kept a blog of her journey through Glioblastoma in the hope it could help others. (http://sbutlerupdates.blogspot.com/?m=1)
She lived life to the fullest for those 5 years. She got to meet her first two grand babies, got her youngest daughter through high school, and spent time doing the things she loved most like spending time at the Lake of the Ozark. This disease may have slowed her down at times, but it did not demolish her warrior spirit. She ALWAYS kept the faith.
This cause and organization meant so much to her. One of the things Sandy, my mom, enjoyed most was helping others. She wanted to help in the fight to ensure no else has to go through the pain of loosing a love one to cancer. From all of us at Team Sandy Butler, thank you! Thank you for spreading awareness of this disease, thank you for providing a place for people to connect, thank you for fighting to find a cure.
